Performance Development
How well do you use the “coaching” style of leadership?
“How do modern organizations respond to the pressures for higher and higher
levels of performance with employees that are more tired by the day?” Thomas
Crane asks in his book The Heart of Coaching .
He responds to this question with, “Progressive leaders are choosing coaching
as a fundamental part of their response. Coaching is a healthy, positive,
enabling process that develops the capacity of people to solve today’s business
problems. As coaching becomes a predominant cultural practice, it will create a
performance-focused, feedback-rich organization capable of creating and
sustaining a competitive advantage.”
Leaders must have skills to support the growth and development of others.
Coaching requires a shift in thinking from being the
manager/decision-maker/delegator to being the
leader/facilitator/servant/visionary. Coaching requires skill in contextual
listening and powerful questioning.
